New Super Mario Bros. Wii picks up Famitsu’s top score

Japanese magazine Famitsu has given Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Wii their prestigious 40/40 score, after just recently awarding one to PS3/360 title Bayonetta.

This is the the thirteenth such score in the magazine’s 23-year history, and the fourth this year. Whether or not the score is becoming less notable as a result of so many recent inclusions is questionable.  Curiously, no other Mario title has received this honour, though Super Mario 64 was close, at 39/40.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii launches in Japan on December 3, and is available in the US, Europe, and Australia.

Seems like this should be a 39/40 based on other things I’m hearing.
