Bayonetta scores 10 at Edge, 11th game to do so

Huh. Bayonetta is making some waves in the world of reviewers. In both of the magazine reviews I’ve heard reports of, it has scored maximum marks; first in Famitsu and now in December’s edition of Edge.

While I don’t use review scores, or even hold them in particularly high regard, high scores from Edge are fairly noteworthy, as they use something of a different scale than other outlets. A 5 from Edge is what they consider an average game, while a 5 elsewhere typically indicates poor quality. (Edge themselves claim that “10 = ten, 9 = nine”, and so on.)

Bayonetta is the first title to receive the score this year, joining 10 other titles including 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV and LittleBigPlanet, and 2007’s Halo 3, The Orange Box, and Super Mario Galaxy. Expect Bayonetta to hit store shelves on January 5 in the US and January 8 in Europe.
