Modern Warfare 2 remains locked on Steam – at least they sell it?
I honestly haven’t the faintest idea why (maybe retail pressure…), but Modern Warfare 2 remains locked on Steam, despite being available at retail for PC, PS3, and Xb0x 360. The strangest part about it is that retail copies of the PC version activate through Steam anyway. This is a strange splintering of service and store. I can only imagine the frustration of those who pre-ordered – and indeed, pre-loaded the game – through Steam, and cannot play it.
Admittedly, we’ve known since the game’s availability on Steam was announced that the planned release date was the 12th, but actually being in that situation is very strange. (And yes, the game still costs $89.99 USD for Australians, which is currently $97AU. Might as well buy it retail, where you can find it cheaper and actually play it.)
On the other hand, at least they sell it. Direct2Drive, GamersGate, and Impulse have all announced that they won’t be selling the game as a result of the Steamworks integration. I guess they hate Steam more than they like money.
