Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer cap 18 players on all platforms

Update: It turns out that the only 9v9 mode is Ground War – other modes, such as Team Deathmatch, are 6v6. Wow.

In a Best Buy live-chat with two Infinity Ward members (which seems to be the way to announce missing or reduced MW2 features), it has been revealed that Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer is limited to 9v9 on the PC as well as consoles.

PC players of CoD4 and/or World at War will likely be feeling the outrage, as the PC cap was previously 32 players. Meanwhile, console players won’t care, as that’s the way it’s always been.

You have to feel for the IW reps, who were already going to be blasted by the community for the removal of dedicated servers, and took some additional flak for this announcement. The reasoning behind the change was apparently balance – the same reason given for the removal of the ability to lean in multiplayer.

Modern Warfare 2 is still arriving on November 10 for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.

I’m a console player and I care as I’m used to games having more than that. Like maybe 256 players.

      MAG and….uh, MAG?

CoD4 and WaW were 9v9 on consoles.
