Modern Warfare 2 hits Steam – out slightly later, regional pricing, system requirements

It’s been a big week for Modern Warfare 2, the upcoming, probably-kind-of-a-big-deal shooter from Infinity Ward and Activision. First, the internet at large discovered that the PC version won’t have dedicated servers, and many people were less than overjoyed. (That petition has now reached almost 140,000 signatures.) Now, the game is available for pre-purchase on Steam.

At $59.99US, it’s hardly on the cheap side of the PC gaming landscape. But spare a thought for your Australian friends; for those in the Land Down Under, the price is $89.99US (currently, $97AU).

The Steam page for Modern Warfare 2 says that the game will be released on November 12th (and, elsewhere, 13th..), just after the expected international release date of November 10. It also gives an indication of the game’s system requirements:

  • OS: Microsoft Windows XP or Windows Vista (Windows 95/98/ME/2000 are unsupported)
  • Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor or better supported
  • Memory: 512MB RAM (1GB for Windows Vista)
  • Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better
  • DirectX┬«: Microsoft DirectX(R) 9.0c
  • Hard Drive: 16GB of free hard drive space
  • Sound: 100% DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card
  • Internet: Broadband connection and service required for Multiplayer Connectivity
  • Co-op/Multiplayer Hosting: To host Co-op or MP matches, a 2Ghz dual-core or better processor is recommended.
